Being able to photograph Kate’s relaxed family photoshoot at home in her parents garden was totally wonderful. By nature I am a home-bod and love pottering around my garden on a Sunday afternoon. So when Kate suggested having their Surrey family photography shoot at her parents home, I was there quick as a whistle! There is something very special about having a family shoot somewhere that the people feel comfortable. You are surrounded by all of your personal items. Children are more content with their surroundings, and thus are able to ease into the situation quicker. This is not to say that a family photography shoot outside the home are not a success – take Ali and her families Richmond Park shoot for instance.

Meeting Kate and her family was like stepping into your own home. Everyone was so warm and inviting. We spent the better half of the morning just chatting and playing in the garden. Observing little moments that families experience together is such a privilege. Capturing the every day interactions is something that makes this job so magical. The glance between the kids and their grandparents, the way that the girls snuggled into their parents. These moments are so priceless but nearly always not documented during every day life. After fooling around in the garden, the family retreated into the kitchen for some home made ice cream. A little family ritual that they have often together. With some family portraits snuck in to the session this relaxed family shoot at home was an utter pleasure to be a part of!
