When I set out in this career I wanted to focus on being an LGBT wedding photographer. Not because I did not love any other type of heterosexual wedding (which I do, I adore ALL weddings) but because it was something that I wanted to celebrate. Coming from a family with same-sex parents I grew up knowing that my mothers could not marry each other and this was not because they did not want to, but because the law told them they couldn’t. When this changed and same-sex couples were allowed to marry, the world finally saw what I had seen all along.

that Love is LOVE

Fundamentally weddings are all about the same things, love, family, fun and celebration. This is regardless of whether you are marrying someone of the same or opposite sex. That is what makes my job so incredibly special. When I got an email from Siobhan and Amy they had found me through Instagram on the profile of wedding venue Dodmoor House. I was so excited! Their wedding plans sounded perfect. They wanted a wedding focused on the things that they loved most:

EACH OTHER, FAMILY and FOOD

I knew that Siobhan, Amy and I would hit it off, to quote When Harry Met Sally ‘I knew the way you know about a good melon’. We met on the Southbank and chatted about wedding photography over margaritas and Mexican food and the rest I guess you could say is history. They had entrusted me to be their LGBT wedding photographer and I was ecstatic.

Amy and her gaggle of gorgeous bridesmaids got ready in the barn accommodation on site at Dodmoor House. The atmosphere was calm and wonderful as the smell of hairspray and cosmetics floated in the summer air. Amy wore a beautiful strapless Maggie Sottero dress with fabulous Jimmy Choo high heels. When the time was right Amy stepped out into the sunshine to meet Siobhan for the most heartfelt first look. Even the videographer spoke to me later about how palpable and visible their love for each other was.

The couples style choices for the day were perfect, from Siobhan’s bespoke tailored suit from King and Allen Tailoring and soft pastel colour pallet to the personalised initial monograms adorning the windows and stationary. If there was a formula for designing a wedding just the way that you want it, then couples should model themselves on these two!

Siobhan and Amy had a personalised beer pong table made, a five course tasting a la carte menu, Jaeger bomb specialised glasses to honour their preferred drink and they even hired their favourite street food burger van to cater the evening food with a special bespoke burger for the occasion. Their wedding was tailored to everything they loved most.

which was absolute perfection

When it all comes down to it, weddings are a wonderful celebration of love in all its forms. I was so grateful to be there to capture their wedding for them. Siobhan and Amy planned and executed the most perfect day that reflected them as a couple through and through.
